About THE BOOK

The Lower East Side of New York was one of the first truly integrated places in the United States. Its formation was orchestrated and coordinated by God, I believe, to facilitate the dreams of many millions of immigrants. They would, in turn, create the American dream that you and I chase every day.

In a similar but much more powerful way, the Lord’s first-generation Son immigrated to a run-of-the-mill village in Israel where he would live such a revolutionary life that he would facilitate the spiritual dreams of any who would dare place their faith in him.

Completely abandoning everything he was comfortable with, he packed up his things and headed to a hostile, new world. Ironically, it was a world that he had helped to create, but had never experienced firsthand. 

It’s the most powerful example of acceptance and equality I know of, where our Maker entered humanity as a “made man.” Not the mob kind, but one even a mobster could relate to! For this reason, I like to think of the ’hood where Christ grew up as the Lower East Side of Heaven—where Man and Maker blended together like never before or ever again.
